Northeast Health and the
medical malpractice stories
Albany's newspapers suppressed
Almost every medical organization in the country makes mistakes that kill and seriously injure patients, and Northeast Health in Troy, New York is no exception. But until now, information about these tragedies has been hidden from public view. In the past 12 years, only one of the dozens of malpractice lawsuits filed against Northeast Health has been reported in the region’s newspapers.
The management of these newspapers have decided that information about claims of medical negligence are not of public interest – a decision which, of course, has nothing to do with the fact that Northeast Heath and other medical providers in the Capital Region spend vast sums of money advertising in those newspapers.
But the allegations in all those lawsuits are public information, accessible to anyone who goes into a county clerk’s office and searches the records. And now those allegations are being made available here.
On the pages of this Web site you will find summaries of some of the many lawsuits filed against Northeast Health over the past 12 years. Clicking a link below each summary will take you to a full account, written as it might have been if it had been reported in a newspaper, of the allegations in that lawsuit.
Most of the lawsuits listed here were filed in Rensselaer and Albany counties. The list is not complete. More will be added to this site as they are located.
And later, the site will be expanded to include details of unreported medical malpractice lawsuits filed against other medical provides in the Capital Region in Northeast New York.

But the Albany media didn't always ignore lawsuits alleging medical negligence. Back in 1985, two doctors made a terrible mistake that took the life of a woman and her child.

The Times Union does print stories about alleged medical malpractice - but only if the claim is against a non-advertiser. In one such case, the allegations were remarkably similar to those in a lawsuit against an advertiser - which was never metioned.
